FLorida - Saturday April 29th

Today was a travel day to get to our Condo on Sanibel Island (very famous for it’s gorgeous beaches and shelling). We had breakfast at around 8 am and got going in the car at around 9:30. We took a 1 ½ hour drive to Venice beach down Highway 75. Apparently, Venice Beach is famous for people finding sharks teeth. One book I read said it wasn’t hard to find them there. We’ll we were there at high tide so we didn’t find all that much. There were two partial teeth that we found but that was about it. Kendra had a blast playing in the sand on the beach but she didn’t like the water even though it was very warm (the lifeguard sign said it was over 80 deg F). Micah only wanted to play on the beach too. At one point he had taken off and I was having a mini mom heart attack for a moment. He was playing in the sand over by the life guard station and we couldn’t see him since he was bending down and was located behind some people in our direct view of him. He also had to go pee while on the beach. We tried to convince him just to go in the water through his shorts but he wouldn’t do it. So he just pulled his pants down eventually and just peed in the water. Oh well he’s only 3.

Brianna ended up going in the water with just her underwear. Chris was searching for sharks teeth and ended up getting wet so he just went swimming with his clothes on.

We had lunch in the car (buns that we had gotten at the grocery store last night) while we waited for Ian to wake up from his mini nap on Patti and then continued on for Fort Meyers and Sanibel Island. The trip was good until Micah had to pee and of course the walkie talkies had run out of batteries. So we had to flag down the Millers and get off the highway. We were headed for a rest stop but Jamie could see that he couldn’t wait so we just stopped and let him go. Man this kid is going to think that peeing outside is normal. We continued along and Kendra was great.

We stopped at a grocery store before going onto the island as we were told that food was cheaper off the island. We spent $150 US so far so we’ll see how far that goes. We then headed onto the island and Kendra had a little nap (she slept for quite a while when we were unloading the car too).

Going over the bridge to the island is a $6 charge (they are currently trying to expand the bridge to 4 lanes rather than just two). We ended up being stopped for a shift change just after Chris and Patti left the toll booth. So we had lost them for a minute (they seem to be navigating all over the place which is fine with us) but we reunited after the bridge and they had room to pull over and wait.

The resort, Blind Pass, was about 4 miles into the island right near Bowman’s Beach. It’s is beautiful of what we have seen so far. The condo is quite spacious and I love all the decorating they have done (some of the knick knacks I could do without though – Kendra is getting into everything so I have to put them up high). We haven’t seen the beach yet but I bet it’s fabulous!!

We got settled into the condos and ended up going out for dinner at The Lazy Flamingo (a lady recommended some places to eat from by post on the Today’s Parent website). It was a small place but very informal and awesome seafood. Micah and I split a plate of shrimps and Jamie had chicken wings (he is not a seafood fan). Kendra just had some crackers and some ketchup on a couple of fries (I say that because she eats more ketchup than the fries since she just dips and licks off all the ketchup). She tried a piece of shrimp but she didn’t like it. She was just wanting out and running around since she has been in a car all day.

The Lazy Flamingo is a bar set up with a about 6 tables and you just order everything straight from the bar and go pick it up when it’s done. We got there at around 6 pm but by the time we were leaving it was a zoo in there. It took me about 20 minutes to get my awesome slice of key lime pie (oh so worth the wait).

We got back to the condo at around 7:30 and the sun was just setting. I had wanted to take some pictures but the wind was so high today and it looked like it was going to rain so I will go out to take some sunset pictures another night.
